Prominent retailer in the SW suburbs seeks a Sr. UNIX Sys Admin. The company is mega-innovative in the retail industry incorporating all the latest and greatest technologies and tools as a leader in their industry. Online, mobile, social network, and television are all means by which they market and sell products.
You'll implement and maintain the Linux, UNIX and storage infrastructure to meet customer demand for a 24/7 operation.
We're looking for someone to: - reduce unplanned system outages. - maintain and keep systems in good performance state as per service level agreements. - lead & motivate the team with technical and analytical solutions as needed. - respond to the issues and effective solutions in timely manner. - lead and provide technical support for all installs, upgrades, re-orgs, patches and proactive maintenance.
Responsibilities: - responsible for installs, upgrades, refreshes and maintains all system environments. - responsible for day to day administrative tasks, such as: proactive monitoring, error checking, performance tuning, trouble-shooting and back-ups. - 24x7 on call rotation within team. - establish, publish and analyze performance metrics & integrity controls to all environments. - responsible for maintaining UNIX Operations Run book and security & regulatory compliances. - responsible for investigate, review, approve, apply and test all patches, changes to the environment. - responsible for installation, upgrade, and support of hardware, software and the associated technology stack in a multi-tier environment in conjunction with database server, application server, web server and third party application servers - provide consultation on performance, patch management, configuration management, instance management, capacity planning, custom interface design, and operational implementation. - follow change management procedures for implementation and migration. - responsible for creating and modifying scripts in Shell, PL/SQL, SQL to automate tasks. - develop and document recovery procedures in the event of system failure to insure protect the data. - assist/partner with other team like DBA, network and development to fulfill the business needs according to standards.
Technically Speaking: - 7+ years of Solid UNIX administration experience is required. - 5+ years of production experience in large and 24x7 environment is required. - Strong administrative experience of LINUX and shared storage required. - Prior experience of systems performance, capacity planning, reorgs, partitioning, tuning and patching is required. - AIX, Solaris, TSM, and Centrify, Nagios, Cacti, GroundWorks is preferred. - Prior experience with NetApp storage systems is highly preferred. - Experience of Disaster recovery process is preferred. - Knowledge of, or experience with Oracle databases is preferred.
